And today I also report and say thank you about Sakuragicho Gospel Concert on December 12th. It was hosted by the church we go to, Victory International Church Yokohama, and we played with many other Japanese Gospel musicians.
It was a big fun and it was a big blessing.

ラブレター２つめです。
This is the 2nd "Love Letter".

早速、癒し系です。
This is a gentle song.


伊万里音色(Imari Tones)が、バンドとして旬だった時代がありまして、
それは、2004年から2005年にかけての、
Tone、はらっち、みねっちの3人でやっていたときです。
黄金トライアングル時代と勝手に呼んでます。
There was a time when Imari Tones was at its best.
That was 2004-2005 era, when Tone, Haratti, and Minetti were together in the band.
I call it "The golden triangle era".



もちろん、今、はっしー&ジェイクとともに、このバンドは二度目の旬を迎えつつあるわけですが、
Off course, now Imari Tones is coming to its second golden time with Hassy&Jake.


それまで、このバンドを形にしようと、準備をしてきて、
やっと形になったのが、この時期で、
伊万里音色の、自分たちで歩いてきた歴史の中でも、
このときがいちばん、日本の普通のバンドらしい時期だったんじゃないかと思います。
However, it was the time the band started to take its form, and it was the time when Imari Tones sounded like a Japanese band most.


この時期の代表曲はいろいろあります。
日本のロックらしい情感を伴った「丘上烈風」であるとか、
切れ味のある「虚数少年２」、
今でも演奏している「Winning Song」のオリジナルバージョン（ギターソロがもっと簡単なバージョンだった）が生まれたのもこの時期です。
There are many songs which represent this era.
"Kyu-Jo-Reppoo" which has Japanese emotinal melody, "The Imaginary Number Boy 2" which has a sharp edge, and also the original version of "Winning Song" (more simple guitar solo) was born in this era.


ハードロックというよりは、
パンク要素やポップの要素がごたまぜになった、ミクスチャー状態でしたが、
要は王道のポップバンドだったと思います。
It was a kind of mixture state of punk, rock and pop, rather than metal or hardrock. In a simple word, it was a "Japanese Pop Band".


この「Must Be....」という曲は、
作曲自体は、1998年に作られたものです。
バラードではないですが、きれいなメロディのポップソングで、
この曲を書いたとき、ちょっと僕は精神的に辛かったり、先が見えない状態にありました。
This song "Must Be...." was actually written in 1998.
It was not a ballad in exact meaning, but it has a beautiful melody.
I was having a hard time of my life when I wrote this song. And my mind was in a darkness.


そんな中でも、生きていることに感謝をしよう、という気持ちでつむぎだしたメロディであると思います。
In that dark time, I tried to thank God and be grateful to life. That's what this song is all about.



この曲は、ストリングスというのか、キーボードのアレンジが、ポイントになっています。
One of the key points of this song is a strings sound.


ライヴでも演奏していましたが、その際は、キーボードはなし、あるいは、一度、うちの妹に、キーボードを弾いてもらって演奏したこともありました。
When playing live, we play it without a keyboard, or sometimes my little sister joined as a keyboard player. Or sometimes with a sequencer.

ヴァース部分の、ピチカートの音と一緒に鳴っているストリングスのメロディが、とても気に入っています。
I personally like the melody of the strings in the verse part, with the pizzicato sound.


それから、間奏、ギターソロの部分が、とても美しいサウンドになり、とても気に入っています。その部分も、ストリングスのアレンジがいい感じだと思うのですが、ミックスの関係で細かい部分があまり聞こえません（笑）
Strings sound in the interlude is also beautiful. I personally like that part but actually most of them are buried in the mix.(omg)


この時期に書いた曲の中では、これも代表曲のひとつである、"Good Bye, My Sunshine Town"と同じくらい、きれいなギターソロというか間奏部分なんではないかと思います。
ギターソロもごくごくシンプルなものですが、この部分に、僕の命の音がすべて鳴っていると思います。
これが僕の祈りであり、祈るギターソロです。
It is as good as "Good Bye, My Sunshine Town", which was written in the same era and also has a beautiful guitar solo part. Guitar solo itself is very simple, but this is my "sound of life" there.


日本語でこういう歌ものを書くと、歌詞の問題でどうしても尺が長くなってしまい、曲も5分超で、ちょと長いのですが、ぜひ聞いてみて欲しいです。
Bad thing is, when I write pop songs like this in Japanese, due to the language and lyrics, it tends to be lengthy. It's over 5 minutes. But I hope you like it.

よくあるパターンとして、
「君」を、神様、と読み替えることも、できるかもしれません。

僕はクリスチャンになったのはごくごく最近ですが、
ずっと前に書いた、この曲のサウンドは、
クリスチャンになる前からも、神様がずっとそばにいてくれたという、

Though it was just a few years ago I became a Christian, I think the sound of this song proves that God had been always with me even before I became a Christian.

ラブレターの最初の曲は、
クリスチャンらしくこの曲にしたいと思います。
I chose this song as the first song of the "Love Letter", trying to act like a Christian.


2005年の秋に、10枚の自主制作の旅路の、最後の1枚として"fireworks"と名付けた作品の中の曲です。
This is a song in the album I named "fireworks", which was recorded in the autumn of 2005 as the last one album of our 10 independent works.


ちなみに、Imari Tonesという名前を、伊万里音色、と漢字で表記するようになったのは、ここ1、2年のことです。
Actually we started spelling our band name in Chinese Character (Kanji) just 1 or 2 years before.



この曲は、作曲は、2003年11月、はらっち、それから、ヒッチー、をいちゃん、と、埼玉某所の一軒家に一緒に住んで、バンド活動を始めようというときに、僕は1ヶ月で55曲、だったかな、くらいを書く作曲セッションをしました。その中の1曲です。
ちなみに、このときは、一月、バイトもしない期間を設けたので、時間もありましたが、今年の6月に曲を書いたときには、普通に働いていて、それでも一月で50曲できたので、むしろ今の方が、創作のスピードは上がっているかもしれません。
When we --Haratti, Hitchie, Woi-chan, and Me-- started living together in Saitama prefecture and trying to start a band in 2003, and it was November 2003, I did some songwriting session myself and wrote 55 songs. This song "Sirase Kitaru" is one of them.
During that period, I didn't do any dayjob or partime job. Now this year June, I did my dayjob and wrote 50 songs in a month, so maybe my writing speed became faster, maybe.



詞を作ったのは、記録によれば2004年の1月です。
しかし、2004年の、はらっち、みねっちとの黄金トライアングル時代には、演奏リストには入っておらず、2005年後半の、僕一人による制作です。
According to the memo, the lyric was written in January 2004. However, this song was not included in our setlist during "Golden Triangle Era" with Haratti and Minetti. So this song was recorded almost by myself in late 2005.



歌詞を書いたときにも、録音制作をしているときにも、この曲の歌詞が、何について歌っているのか、自分自身、よくわかりませんでした。
Actually I myself had no idea what this song is talking about, even when I was writing the lyric, nor when I was recording the song.


しかし、「報せ来る」、この報せ、というのは、もちろん、良い知らせ、ということで、つまり英語にすると、"Here comes the Good News"となります。
However, the title "Sirase Kitaru", and "Sirase" means a "news", in this case, a good news. So in English, it means like "Here comes the good news".


福音来たる。
つまり、
イエス来たる。
Which means,
Here comes the gospel,
Here comes Jesus.


ということで、そうか、これは、クリスチャンソングなんだ、と、クリスチャンになった後に、僕はわかったんです。
（いや、勘違いかも、しれませんけど、ひとまず今は、そう解釈しています。）
So, now, after I became a Christian, I finally understood that this song is about Jesus. (I may be wrong, but at least that's my understanding.)


歌詞の内容としては、
遠い昔に交わされた約束が、Good Newsとともに実現する、という内容になっています。
イザヤ書の預言みたいだと思います。
The content of the lyric is, mostly about the promise made a long time ago becomes true with the good news. A bit like the prophecy of Izaya.


そして、福音と、救い主、救済に出会うことができた喜びを、曲と歌詞が全身で表現しています。
And the whole song expresses the joy of salvation, the joy of seeing messaiah.


また、歌詞の最後に、ある「あなたが変わる」というフレーズも、
当時は意味不明だったんですが、
クリスチャンにとっての、信仰によって新たに生まれ変わるという意味だと、今では一応解釈しています。
And the last part of the lyric, it says "YOU are going to change" which I did't understand what it means at the time I wrote the song, now I know it's about being born again by faith. At least that's my understanding.



僕の音楽的なバックグラウンドとしては、
アメリカンハードロック、古典的ブリティッシュハードロック、90年代ブリットポップ、90年代オルタナティヴ、日本の古典的なロック、などがありますが、それらがの影響がバランスよく表れているサウンドなんじゃないかと思います。
My musical background / influences are, American Hard Rock, Classic British Rock, 90s Brit Pop, 90s Alternative, Japanese Classic Rock, and so on, but I guess this song is a good mix of them.

伊万里音色のラブレター

話が、大風呂敷かつ、遠回りに、長くなることを、最初に謝っておきます。
また、読んで反発や、不快に思ったら、すみません、あらかじめ謝っておきます。
でも、それで嫌いになっていただいても、まったくかまいません。
これは僕の本気のラブレターだからです。


僕がこの伊万里音色 (Imari Tones)という不思議な名前のプロジェクトを始めたのは、
最初の起源からいえば、もうずっと昔のことです。10年以上前です。

始めた理由は、他にやれることがなかったからです。
他の選択肢がなくなってしまったからです。
僕はミュージシャンになることは否定していた少年でした。
僕が少年時代、弁護士ないし検事を目指していたことは、親しい友人なら知っていると思います。



時代的には、
90年代の後半に、進化していった、デジタルレコーディングやコンピュータを利用したレコーディングが、個人レベルでの録音環境を変えていったこと、

それから、21世紀に入って、ショウビジネスとしてのロックがあらゆる意味で縮小していった背景と重なります。


高校を出て以来、いろいろあってちょいとばかし、精神的に不安定だった私が、実家の音楽室に自作PCを組み上げて、録音作業を始めたのが、実に1998年のことで、

ちなみにImari Tonesという名前が頭に浮かんだのが、翌年の1999年のことでした。
変な名前だと思いましたが、もっと洒落た名前を付けたいと思いましたが、たとえバンド活動に不利であっても、それを使わなくてはいけない、と思いました。
（そして、実際にバンドが形になったのは2004年の事です）


それ以来、10年、11年が経過したわけですが、
Worldly、現実的に見れば、
別段成功もしていないわけですが、
それでも、スタート地点を思えば、とても遠くまで発展することができましたが、

その道程は、とても祝福されたものでした。


そして、はたから見れば、僕らは今もまだ、成功の階段をゆっくり登っている途中の状態に見えるかもしれませんが、

芸術家（のはしくれ）としての、
僕の本心からしてみれば、

僕はもうとっくに、自分のやるべきことを、「成し遂げて」います。



具体的に言えば、
それは、自分、自分たちだけで録音制作をした、
自主制作10枚の旅路です。

1998年から、2005年にわたって、制作をした、
10枚の自主制作作品、
それこそが、伊万里音色(ImariTones)の、
もっとも本質といえる作品です。


僕がロックを始めたのは、
他でもなく、少年時代、
このロックという精神哲学のポジティヴなエナジーによって、
世界の人類の精神を救うことができる、
と感じたからでした。

それは、ロックをやる人間は、皆、そうだと思うのですが、

しかし現実には、
ロックはまだそれに成功していないと僕は思います。

僕が思うには、
60年代にその基を築き、
70年代を見事に発展させ、
80年代にそれを身近なレベルにまで応用することに成功したロックというムーヴメントはしかし、
本来の目的である最後の一撃をいまだに放つことができず、
それ以上先に進むことができずにいます。

何がそれを邪魔したかはここでは議論しません。
90年代を通じて、悪く言えば、ロックは停滞し、よく言えば、ロックは成熟し、2000年代にはさらに砕かれていきましたが、
（砕かれる、というのは、クリスチャン用語なのか？）


世界にたくさんミュージシャンがいる中で、
僕が知っている中では、

本当に世界を救うことができる精神的ポテンシャルがある音楽家は、3組ありました。
きっと僕が知らない中ではもっといるかもしれません。


Van Halenは、本当にロックという精神性を世界的にメジャーな舞台で発展させ、80年代のロックの目的を、完璧に果たしましたが、90年代に入り、僕が言うところの、ロックの究極の目的である「最後の一撃」を放とうと試みた途端に、猛烈な抵抗に合い、結局、パーティーバンドとしての枠から逃れることができず、静かな死を迎えました。ロック史上最強のギタリストであるEddie Van Halenにそれが出来なければ、他の誰にそれができるのか。私は、非常に深刻な思いです。

僕が日本で最も尊敬する音楽家であるところの、熊谷幸子さんは、70年代の偉大な音楽家である荒井由実の直弟子として、そのはるか先を行く音楽を作り、一時はメジャーな舞台に踊り出ましたが、ポップシンガーとしての枠から、大きく外れることはできませんでした。しかし、ある意味で、熊谷幸子さんは、師匠のユーミンと違い、バカ売れしなかったことで、知名度こそ大きくはないものの、ある意味でその音楽の究極の目的を、提示することに成功していると、僕は思います。

21世紀に入ってから活動を始めた、+/-{plus/minus}は、その精神性のピュアさと強靭さにおいて、新たなロックの理想の地平を切り開く力を間違いなく持っていると私は思いますが、しかし彼らもきっと、シューゲイザー系のインディバンドという枠からはみ出すことは無いでしょう。しかし、ある意味、インディであり続けるということで、示すことができる新たなロックの形があるかもしれません。



こう書くと、自らの実力不足に、情けなくなりますが、
伊万里音色、Imari Tonesは、そのロックの「最後の一撃」を放つべく、生まれたバンドです。

そして、実は、その一撃は、もうすでに、撃ちました。（笑）


これは、笑い事じゃないんです。



僕が、ロックという芸術が持つ、答えを見つけたのは、
だいたい15,16歳のことです。

その事実だけで、僕という一人の個人の心、魂を救うには、十分でした。
ですから、僕自身の人生は、その時点で、幸福であったのであり、勝利していたのです。

実際に、そのロックの福音は、僕をすっかり変えてしまい、それ以降の人生で、僕のことを非常に助けてくれました。それ以降、そのロックの福音こそが、僕の中で、今この瞬間にいたるまでまで、僕の人生の中心に置かれていました。

その中には、既に、神や信仰ということも含まれていました。
僕は特定の宗教の信者ではありませんでしたが、
（つーか日本人なら大抵、生まれながらに限りなく無宗教に近い仏教徒ということになっておるが）

後にクリスチャンになることすら、このときすでに、僕の中にプログラムされていたと、僕は思います。


ですから、僕にとっては、
この世界がどうなろうが、
ロックという芸術の試みが、成功しようがしまいが、
本当はどうでもいいことです。

明日、殺してくれたっていいし、
明日、世界が滅んだってかまいません。

また、僕や、僕自身、僕の音楽などを、
否定してもらっても、一向にかまいません。

僕自身の魂は、とっくに救済され、勝利しているからです。



1998年--2005年の間の、
僕と僕らの旅路の記録である、
この10枚の自主制作による作品は、

誰も注目しない中で、
まったくにインディペンデントな中で、
作られたものですが、

その中には、
自分の人生における、僕自身の身におけるロックに対する答えのすべてが、凝縮して込めてあります。
これ以降、たとえどんなレコードを作ろうとも、
仮にすごく売れたり成功した作品を作ろうとも、
伊万里音色の本当の本質が、その自主制作した10枚にあるということは、
未来永劫変わりがありません。
これらは、日本という国に生まれた、僕個人の、自らのパーソナルな人生の表現のすべてです。


今までの人生で、もう死んでもいいな、とおもった場面が、
いくつかありますが、
そしてそのたびに、次のフェイズ、段階での旅が始まりましたが、

この10枚を作り終えた時点で、本当は、芸術家（のはしくれ）としては、僕は、いつ死んでもいいんです。


そんな究極の一撃を放ったにもかかわらず、
たぶん世界はそんなに変わってもいなければ、
僕らも成功とか別段、まだそんなに、してないし、
目を見張るような奇跡が起きたわけでもない。
（いや、本当は、奇跡は、いっぱい、起きてるんですが）

それは、たぶん、僕自身が未熟であるか、
しょせん世界がそういう運命なのか、
あるいは神様はロックの違う形を望んでおられるのか。
ないしは、神様はもっと僕にもっと働けと言っているのか。

知りませんが。


どっちにしろ、
インディペンデントに歩んできた
その10枚の旅路は、
とても祝福されたものだったのです。

身近な人達にこそ、
僕が、伊万里音色、Imari Tonesとして、
どんな道程を歩んで、どんな音符を見つけてきたか、
知って欲しいのです。
だから、今、こういうラブレターを書いてます。





伊万里音色の音楽には、
最初から、信仰や、宗教的なテーマがあったと思います。

しかし、本当に表現の純粋さを保つためには、
特定の宗教や教会に属さずに、
あくまで、荒野でたった一人、信仰を見つける必要があったのだと思います。



伊万里音色の音楽には、最初から、直接的にではなかったとしても、宗教的な要素が、少なくとも、ありました。

2001年頃に、「漂泊の救世主」という、大仰に聞こえてなおかつジョークと自嘲的な皮肉にあふれた言葉を思いつき、皮肉まじりにそれをテーマとして口にしてきたこと。

暗い精神状態と状況の中で、何も考えられない中で一人で作った最初の録音作品のタイトルが、すでに「Through The Garden Of Gods」だったこと。
そのテーマは、神との闘いと、そして和解でした。

2001年の作品である「進化論」という曲には、たとえ偶然にしろ、創造の神秘について歌い、「神の御心のままに」というフレーズが出てきます。

2005年の作品、「美しいものを観よう」の、裏に秘められたテーマは、「神を見る」ということでした。それは、米持プロデューサーと一緒に録音した"Speechless Speaker"という英語バージョンの拙い歌詞により強く現れています。

「報せ来る」という曲は、書いた当時は、何について歌っているのかわかりませんでしたが、後から見返すと、明らかにジーザスがもたらす救済についての曲であることがわかります。

もちろん、曲の多くは実際には、個人の愛と生活についてのものですが、
そうした、メッセージ性のアクといったものが、とっつきにくさにつながり、多くのバンドと同じように、都内のライヴハウスで盛んに演奏していた時期に、観客からハテナの反応を示される原因になっていました。しかしそのアクは、隠そうとしても、隠せるものではありませんでした。




10枚の自主制作を終えた後、
米持師匠との出会いをきっかけに、
なんだかだんだん海外志向が強まっていき、
また、自らのルーツであるハードロックへの回帰が強まっていき、
あげくのはてには、クリスチャンになり、クリスチャンロックを名乗るようになるというオマケまで付きました。


しかし、ぶっちゃけ、言ってしまえば、
それら、その後の活動は、余興であり、後日談に過ぎないのです。
神様は僕と僕らに、もっと働けと言っていると思っています。
もともと、世界とすごく距離のあった伊万里音色、そして僕自身ですが、
だんだんと、世界との距離を縮めていると思います。
だんだんと、worldlyというのか、世俗的に受け入れられる方向に、進んでいるのだと思います。
しかし、それも、自主制作時代において、芸術的に本懐を遂げているからこそ、変化していけることです。


これら自主制作の10枚は、見てのとおり、日本語で作り、日本語で歌い、
また、日本の文化背景を前提に作った作品であり、表現です。
だから、外国の人々には、必ずしも理解できるものではないと思います。


僕はもともと、最初から、ミュージシャンとしては、日本語で歌いたい、と思っていました。
今は、すっかり、英語で歌っていますが、それは、海外志向という方向に、自分達の現実的なアウトプットを見出したからに過ぎません。
日本という国や風土や文化に対する、愛情や、複雑な感情を、ここで述べることはしませんが、僕はもともと、日本語で歌いたかったし、日本語で歌い表現した自主制作10枚の旅路に、とても満足しています。


荒野で孤独に行った、10枚の自主制作の旅路を終えたからこそ、
神様は僕に、クリスチャンの信仰を与えてくれました。
これも、計算されたタイミングだったと思っています。

しかしそれすらも、僕にとっては、もともと持っていた信仰に、名前と形が与えられたことに過ぎないと思っています。
信仰として大事なことのほとんどは、ずっと昔に、教えられ、もらっていたと思います。


自主制作の10枚が、日本で生まれた人たちに対する、僕のラブレターであったとすれば、
それ以降に作った作品は、外国ないし世界の人達に対するラブレターです。
そしてクリスチャンの信仰という武器も神様はちゃんと与えてくれました。
今作っている"God Rocks"（仮）は、特にそうです。

10枚の自主制作の旅で、この国に生まれた人間としての、答えを提示することができたように、次の"God Rocks"では、世界の人々に対して、自分という音楽家の答えを提示することができると思っています。
僕はそれを、ずっと鳴らし続けることができるはずです。


身をもって示したい。
インディーズ時代に絶妙なタイミングで生まれることができて良かったと思っています。
それらのことを身をもって示すには、いちばんの環境なのだから。

「ロックンロールは世界を救う」って（笑）


ロックが、神様からの贈り物であり、
神のプランであるということは、
僕が独自に持っている信仰です。
こればかりは、譲れません。

たとえば、The Beatlesにしろ、Jimi Hendrixにしろ、
僕が語ると、人類の歴史とロックの意義といったことや、神様のプランということを語り始めます。
だから、結構、ファンの人とも会話がかみ合わないと思います（笑）

たとえばクリスチャンになるずっと前から、
僕は、The Beatlesは、ミュージシャンとしては、まったく参考にならない、なぜなら神の手が入りすぎていて、そもそも真似しようにも出来ないからだ、という発言を、いつもしていました。

異論もあると思いますが（笑）




少年時代から、
芸術家としての自分にとっての武器は、
純粋な信仰と、自由な心と、個人的な愛情であったと思います。

それらに、神様は答えてくれることを、僕は知っています。
たとえば、神様は、今に至るまで、僕が、曲が必要だと思えば、
いくらでも、曲をくれました。
そして、今まで、僕はなんとか、生き延びています。
多くの人達との、出会いと、旅がありました。

どんなに、幸福な旅路であったか。

奇跡は、たくさん起きています。
それを、伝えたいんです。


今、海外志向で、よりハードロックなサウンドを、英語で演奏していますが、
もちろん、それらは、手応えとともに信じて行っていることですが、
でもいつの日か、
日本語で歌った、これらの曲たちを、
皆の前で、再び演奏できる時が来たら、
その時こそ、僕は自分の人生を終えることができるのだと、思います。



大仰に聞こえるかもしれませんが、
これが僕のラブレターです。

New Recording Blueprint

Hi, this is Tak from IMARI TONES.

After we came back from the USA tour in April 2009, next thing we did is to plan a new recording.
We could plan another tour, we could plan joining some festival, we could plan a new marketing scheme, but we thought we have to create another record first.

Why? Because the Lord gave us some new ideas!
We know we should create More Christian, More Beautiful, More Rockn'Roll album.

So we want you to know what we are working on now.

because now we are making friends with many Christian Musicians here in Tokyo.
Actually this year it's been 150 years since Protestant Christianity arrived in Japan.

It was one of the best show in this tour.
(Little Rock and Seattle was also good. But Little Rock we had no recording and Seattle we didn't use our own equipments.)

USA Tour Finished!

Hi this is Tak (Tone).

Our first time in USA tour is now finished!
We are back in Japan!
Sorry it took us so long to upload blog and photos.

It was our first time playing shows in USA.
And the tour was very successful.

We want to say thank you to everybody.
And hope we can see you again soon!


Here is short summary of what we did in USA.


Dallas TX (April 3-5)
We played 1 song at ICC Dallas (Japanese church)
And finally, Tak got baptized.
(yeah it's been a year and 3 months Tak accepted Jesus and became christian, it was a good timing and opportunity.)
It was such a blessing and we all had a good time.

We stayed at our friend Ken's house.
They had a party for us and we could talk with many friends and pastors.
It was wonderful time and Jake made a big cake for that party.
It tasted so good now he is called "Cake"!

We met some Japanese christian musicians there at ICC.
Hope we can do something together in Japan!

Thank you, Ken-san, Oscar-san, and everybody at ICC!!


Austin TX (April 6)
Actually it was 2nd time for Tak to visit Austin.
He was there in 2007 SXSW.
He didn't play in official slot. He just visited there but he played outside on the 6th street, with his guitar alone and made 30 bucks.
And finally we got official gig in Austin.
We played at club called Headhunters. It was nice place.
We had some trouble. Jake didn't understand how to construct his drumset. Just 1 hour before the show, he noticed he needs to drill drums to attach the hardware. (In Japan we don't have to. Because in Japan usually everything is already attached and ready.)
But soundguy/booking manager (he was a bassist of a well known hardcore band, by the way) was so kind and he did all the drilling work and we managed to assemble the drumkit just before the showtime.

Because there was no time for soundcheck, it was not a best condition and Tak's voice was not good, but his guitar shredding was as good as usual.
In the end we got very good responce from the people!

Next morning we took some photos on 6th Street.
Hope we can come back there in some festival!


Houston TX
On April 7th, we visitted Fukuko-san's house.
There was a bible study meeting of ICC Houston there.
We joined them and Tak played 2 worship songs with an acoustic guitar.
We stayed at Fukuko-san's house. It was very nice, thank you Fukuko&Brian-san.
Tak jammed with Brian-san a bit, it was fun.

On April 8th, we played at Super Happy Fun Land, downtown Houston.
It was a very cool venue.
We played with Bows & Arrows, 10th Grade Cutie. They were all good.
10th Grade Cutie was a real punk rock. We digged it so much.
I heard many people were supposed to come that night because they put the show on some newspaper. Actually crowd was not that big but none the less it was a fun and happy night!
Yes, Super Happy Fun Land rocks!



Little Rock AR, April 9th
We drived for 8 hours and we came to Little Rock AR.
What a pretty town!
Downtown was not so big but everything was so art&pretty!
We all liked the town.

Weather was not good.
During our show, outside was a thunderstorm.
But the show itself was a thunderstorm, too!
We did a very hot show that night.

Cool part of the show was when one guy came to the stage and offered me(Tak) a shot of whisky.
I tried to avoid drinkin the whole shot but people all shoutted like "go ahead and drink the whole shot!", so that's what I did! And people went crazy.

When I played last song of the set I was feeling a little drunk but it was a hot night!!
We love Little Rock!
I think we played Big Rock there!


Nashville TN, April 10.
Again weather was not good.
The guy from the venue told us it's lucky we were alive because we had come through tornado.

But the Nashville show was one of the best.
Mr.Wakaisenshi gave us his original T-shirts specially made for us!!
It was a big pleasure and it gave us a lot of power.
We did a very good show and recieved very good response. Sold many CDs.

We also met Whisper Of The Garden, who is a great singer and plays christian music.
Next morning, we and Whisper and her manager CC had a breakfast together, talking about christianity in Japan and lots of things.
It was a good time.

Around Nashville, there were some mountains and forrests. It looked somehow like Japan. Yes, Nashville, we felt something special. We will come back diffenetely.



Atlanta GA, April 11&12
After having a breakfast with Whisper Of The Garden, we went to Chattanooga.
And there we met Pastor Butch Varner.
He was in Japan before for a long time and he is eager to spread gospel in Japan.
We talked about lots of things and also about his plan of coming to Japan this year. Yes, we are willing to help him in Japan!

By the way there we ate some humbergers at Red Robin. Wow it was very good, possibly the best humberger we ever had. (Because in Japan we have only McDonald's.)

Until this time it turned out that our show in Atlanta was cancelled because of the venue was closing down. Well, hard luck, but this kind of things sometime happens.

So we went directly to Naoko's house. Naoko-san was a friend of Jake's.
She and Jake had met here in Yokohama, Japan.
And she was a christian too.

We were kind of dissapointed because of the cancellation of the show.
But Naoko-san called the pastor of Japanese church in Atlanta and now they would let us play some music in their church!
Yeah, we were very excited! Thanks, Naoko-san!

April 12th, it was Easter Sunday.
We joined Easter Worship at Westminster Japanese Church in Atlanta and played 2 worship songs.
It was such a pleasure to play in a church on Easter Sunday.
Thank you everybody there!

After that, we went to the Stone Mountain and did some sightseeing.



New York City, April 13-15
On April 13th, in the morning we sent our amplifers and equipments to Ken-san.
Because in New York City and Seattle, we don't have to bring our amplifers.
That means when we do our next tour, we start from Dallas TX again.

Anyway, we flew to NYC.
We stayed at some hostel owned by Japanese. There were only Japanese people stayed there, so it's kind of funny.

On April 14th we played at Otto's Shrunken Head in East Village.
We met a Japanese drummer, he played in other band that night.

And our show, it took a while to get everything right on stage, but after all everything was great! We had a good responce and had a good time.
We met Pastor Richy there.
He was a music industry person. Working with many big musicians.
So it's great thing he liked us and offered us a help.
Maybe he can help us when we visit NYC next time.
We wish we could stay longer, so that we can play Pastor Richy's church on Sunday.
Thank you very much, pastor Richy!

On April 15th, we did all the sightseeing. Because it was 1st time visitting NYC for us. We went to Times Square, Broadway, Central Park, East Village, Battery Park and Statue Of Liberty, and we walked and crossed the Brooklyn Bridge.
After all those sightseeing we were all tired but we again met Pastor Richy and did some business talk. Great, hope it works!

On April 16th, I got a phonecall from Mr.Locke from OURS (the band based in NYC), because last year I met him in Utah in a film festival. He was very nice person. But unfortunately this was a day we had to leave NYC. But thanks Mr.Locke!


Seattle WA, April 16-19.
So Seattle, personally for me(Tak) it's 2nd time visitting this city.
This city is beautiful and pretty. We all love Seattle.
On the first day we stayed at cheap hostel near the Pike Place.
We had sent our posters there beforehand, and when we arrived, lo and behold they put our posters all over the place. We were very glad!

We stayed in Seattle for 3 days and it was very lucky we didn't see any rain during our stay. We saw only blue sky. It's very lucky in Seattle isn't it?

April 17th, after we did some sightseeing, including Pike Place Market, 1st Starbucks, Space Needle, we went to the venue.
Again it was very cool venue, it was located in Georgetown and there were lots of crazy people around there partying on the street. Very artistic vibe.

Luckily we had some Japanese audience there. And it was one of the best show, too. Seattle rocks!!

We met Leiko-san and Rae-san. They were very cool people.

On April 18th, Leiko&Rae-san picked us up early morning and we went to Japanese Church in Tacoma.
There we joined worship and Tak plaed 1 worship song with an accoustic guitar.

After that Leiko&Rae-san we drove back to Seattle and did all the sightseeing.
Shawn (Hardison) gave us a Live Recording CD-R from the previous night show. Thanks Shawn!
We went to Washinton University district and Fremont and Capitol Hill. It was fun!
And we had tea at the restaurant by the river near the university bridge with Leiko&Rae-san and their friends. Thanks!

We stayed at Leiko&Rae-san's house, we jammed together with Rae-san in his garage. It was fun! And we had wine and sake and we had fun all night!

And after that, we flew back to Japan!!



All throught the tour, we had great help from Japanese churches and Japanese Christian people. We are very thankful and grateful for that. Thank you for all the people.

And we personally want to say big thanks to Ken-san.
Without her help, this tour was not possible.

We have made friends with some Japanese Christian artists and American pastors willing to come to Japan.
So our next step is to team up with those people and make a big movement in Japan. Yes that's what we will do.

And since this tour was succesful, we want to make it bigger and happier next time.
Things are just starting to move ahead. And we are going to keep them moving.

Bad News, Atlanta show cancelled

Hi this is Tak "Tone" from IMARi ToNES, Japan.
A bad news, really sorry to tell you this but our show in Atlanta, scheduled on April 11, was cancelled due to the venue closing down. Mmm... it looks like economy is really bad all around the world.

We are now looking for another venue but there is only little time left.
Anyway we will try our best.

Last year we recorded our first Christian theme album "Welcome To The School".
And earlier this year, we signed with Empty Vessel Music.
It's a cool Christian record label who is trying to do good causes in society.

Because Empty Vessel Music is non profit label trying to make a difference and they have their plan.
They sure will release our music sooner or later.

Yes IMARi ToNES has its unknown history of recording many songs independently.
Even before the band member-lineup was completed.

Houston show cancelled；￣ロ￣）！！

Okay this is a bad news.
Our houston show at Scout Bar, scheduled on April 8th, is now cancelled for some reason.
Well, this kind of thing happens often in music business, you know.
オーケー、これは悪いニュースです。
4月8日に予定されていた、Scout Barでのヒューストンのショウは、ある理由によりキャンセルになりました。
音楽ビジネスの世界ではこういうことはよく起こります。

We are now looking for other venue to fill the cancelled date. I think we can find it soon. But I'm not sure if it's gonna be in Houston. It may be in some other city.
私たちは今、空いた日程を埋めるために他のハコを探しています。すぐに見つかると思います。でも、ヒューストンになるかどうかはわかりません。他の街になるかもしれません。

We are not worried at all because this is also a part of God's plan and He can take care of everything.
We are now busy preparing for the tour in April. We are so excited and looking forward to seeing you people.

Journey2004;episode2

2004年のIMARi ToNESのメンバーは、Tone, はらっち、みねっち、だった。
実は2003年の後半から、いろんなメンバー編成を試してみたけれど、うまくいかず、
2004年の3月に、このラインナップになってから、バンドの活動が始まったのだった。

So lineup of IMARi ToNES at that time in 2004 was, Tone, Haratti, and Minetti.
Actually the band has been trying with several other members since the last quarter of 2003 but it didn't work.
And it was only after this 3 guys got together the band started giging constantly.

これがTone。
So this is Tone.

実質的にこいつがバンドのリーダーであり、彼がほとんどの曲を書いている。
IMARi ToNESは彼のバンドであることは否定できない。
彼がまだ学生のとき、自宅のスタジオで音楽を作り始めたのが実に1998年のことだったから、彼はおそらく君が思うよりも年をとっているだろう。
この頃のToneは、主にMusicman Axisのギターを使用していた。

He is the one who started the band and virtually he is the leader of the band.
He is the writer of most of the IMARi ToNES songs.
He was still a student when he started recording songs in his own room in 1998.
So I think he probably is older than you think.

そしてこれがはらっちだ。

And this is Haratti.

彼はもともと、バイオリンを制作する職人になるために訓練を受けた。
しかし、イタリアに渡り彼は、本場の職人にかなわないことを知った。
彼は2003年後半にToneに出会い、その後、2007年7月まで一緒にプレイした。
彼はToneと違い、どちらかというとパンクやモダン・オルタナティヴに興味があった。
そしてそれがIMARi ToNESのサウンドをユニークにした。
今では日本の伝統的な楽器のひとつ、大正琴を制作する職人になっている。
その意味では、彼は音楽への夢と情熱をかなえたといえるだろう。

He was originally trained to be a constructer of violins.
But when he went to Italy, he realized that it was impossible for him to match the skill of Italian craftsman.
He met Tone in August 2003, and played together until July 2007.
He, unlike Tone, was interested in Punk and modern alternative music, which made IMARi ToNES sound unique.
He has now become a craftsman of Taishogoto, Japanese traditional musical instrument.
So in that meaning you can say he has achieved his passion for music.

そしてこれがみねっちだ。

And this is Minetti.

2004年3月にToneと出会い、2005年の末頃まで一緒にプレイしていた。
彼は古いUKロックと、グラムロックに対する情熱を持っている。
Gibson Thunderbirdを駆使し、個性のあるプレイでアピールしていた。
2006年1月に後任のベーシストが加入し、彼はバンドを抜けたが、その後もToneと彼は良い飲み友達である。
今では古着屋の店長になっている。

He met Tone in March 2004, and has been played together with him until, around the end of 2005.
He has a great passion for classic UK rock music and gram rock.
Using his Gibson Thunderbird, his bass sound was very appealing.
In January 2006 he was replaced with another bass player but he is still a good friend of Tone. They sometimes go drinking together.
He now is running a used clothing shop in his hometown.

この3人で、2004年から2005年にかけての1年間を共に戦い、
そして、"Hero Of The Lights"という作品を作った。

These 3 people, during 2004 and first quarter of 2005, has fought their way together,
and recorded the album which was named "Hero Of The Lights".

この3人での活動は非常に楽しかった。
そして、IMARi ToNESのヒストリーの中でもベストな時期のひとつだった。
そして、IMARi ToNESが、もっとも、日本の、普通のバンドらしい時期だったのではないかと思っている。

It was a great fun and a great journey with these guys.
And certainly it was one of the best era of IMARi ToNES' history in many aspects.
And, I think it was this era, in which IMARi ToNES sounded like a "normal Japanese band" most, in a good way.

Journey2004;episode1

IMARi ToNESはいつから始まったのかという質問をよく受けます。
実際には、もともとIMARi ToNESというこのおかしな名前の音楽は、
ナカミネタカヒロの個人的な事情からスタートしている音楽であり、
バンドの形になる前から、個人の録音制作のアートプロジェクトとして、
スタートしていたものでした。
実際に、ナカミネが録音制作を始めたのは、
実に1998年にさかのぼることになります。

I have been asked frequently about when IMARi ToNES has begun.

In fact, this music which is called by funny name IMARi ToNES,
it was originated from Tone (Tak Nakamine)'s personal life.
And it started as a personal recording art project.

Actually it was back in 1998 when Tone started his first recording.

しかし、バンドとしてのスタートはいつだったのかと聞かれれば、
それは、2004年の3月であったと答えます。

バンドをスタートするのは簡単ではありません。
ナカミネが、2002年に東京に出てきてから、
仕事を辞め、メンバーが固まり、本格的にライヴ活動を開始することができたのは、
この2004年の3月からであったと思います。

However, if you ask when it started as a "band", the answer will be "March 2004".

It's not easy to start up a band.
After Tone moved to Tokyo in 2002, he quit his job, and tried to find band members,
and it was only since March 2004 he could start giging and performing constantly.

2004年3月末、
代々木公園の、満開の桜の下で、
ナカミネ、はらっち、みねっちの3人は、
酒を酌み交わしました。
そう、ちょうど、三国志に出てきた桃園の誓いのシーンのような気分で。

It was end of March 2004, under cherry trees in full spring blossom, that Tone, Haratti and Minetti drunk Sake together, in Yoyogi-park Tokyo.

It was just like a famous scene from Sanguozhi (Three Kingdom Saga), ancient Chinese story, in which 3 heros drunk under peach tree and promissed to fight together for their country.

それから1年、ナカミネ、はらっち、みねっちの3人は、
スリーピースのバンドとして、
東京のライヴハウスを舞台に、
冒険の旅に挑戦することになります。

それは、今振り返っても、非常に実りの多い旅でした。

これからしばらく、「Journey 2004」のタイトルで、
我々IMARi ToNESが、東京のクラブシーンにおいて、
何を見て、どこを歩いてきたのかを、
お話したいと思います。

After that, for about 1 year, they -Tone, Harrati & Minetti-, as a 3 piece band,
tried to prove themself in Tokyo club scene.

It was indeed a fruitful journey. We saw and learned many things there.

I'm going to write about what we have seen, where we have been and what we have chosen, in the Tokyo underground club scene, under the title "Journey 2004".

Empty Vessel Music is a independent label based in Atlanta GA.
They are guys trying to make a difference through music and education.

As a matter of course, it looks like our latest work "Welcome To The School" will be released by this label. We will let you know when it happens.

The reason we decided to sign to this label is because we want to do something new.

In these 10 years music industry changed drastically and we have to find some new meaning in playing rock music.
Also we have to find some new relationship between artists, record labels and audience.
We think Empty Vessel Music is one of those possibilities.

Since the first day we started playing music, it has been more than just songs, more than just fame and money.
It was a way of life, the way we live.
And it has taught us many things.
As we believe in the power of music, we feel it's very natural to sign with this label and work with these people.
